Ukrainians to be offered jobs in the construction industry in Hungary?
There is a shortage of skilled workers and engineers in all fundamental positions in the construction industry. The shortage could be reduced by involving refugees, so the National Union of Construction Entrepreneurs (ÉVOSZ) asked for the participation of its member organisations for the temporary employment of Ukrainians in Hungary due to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to the association, in addition to reducing labour shortages, temporary or long-term employment may be appropriate for refugees to lead a normal life. If they manage to get a job and can stay in Hungary more securely, they have to worry about financial problems less, writes karpathir.hu.
Since 2019, Hungary has made it easier for Ukrainians to work
Incidentally, the employment of Ukrainians in Hungary is not new, there have been efforts to reduce labour shortages in the past, starting before the covid pandemic.
In 2019, the Hungarian government passed a decision, according to which Serbian and Ukrainian citizens can take up temporary work in Hungary in various occupations, without a work permit.
Of course, the shutdown caused by the coronavirus and the resulting economic consequences have completely redrawn the situation, and it looks like what had to stop in the last 2 years due to Covid is now continuing due to the unfortunate consequences of the war.
Connecting the workers to the workplace
ÉVOSZ helps with the employment opportunities by getting information from various employers, and ÉVOSZ forwards the contact details of the Ukrainian refugees to the various member subgroups.

The members of ÉVOSZ, contractors, designers, and engineering companies cover the entire territory of the country. Workers from abroad are typically employed as skilled workers.
As we wrote earlier, about 100,000 refugees crossed the Hungarian border from Ukraine. Many of them travel on foot to Western Europe, to relatives or acquaintances there.
There are companies that specifically want to hire refugees
Vajda-Papír offers almost 100 jobs for those fleeing Ukraine, writes karpathir.hu. These job opportunities will be in the company’s factories in Dunaföldvár, Székesfehérvár, and Budapest. The company provides a secure income and housing for those working in said factories. A translator helps non-Hungarian-speaking employees to integrate. You can find out about the job opportunities on the Vajda-Papír website.
The Styl Clothing Factory would employ 60-70 people forced to flee Ukraine due to the war.

If only it were that simple. Ukrainian qualifications in fields like engineering and medicine are not recognised by Hungarian bodies (nor other EU countries) without a long and convoluted process to confirm parity with local qualifications. This process includes a language skill exam in Hungarian (for obvious reasons).
